The Extraordinary Kindness of an Ordinary Barber: Shifu Huang Fuxing

By John Smith, 25 November 2025

Huang Fuxing, from Bajiaojing Village in Datang Town, came from a family of five siblings who lost their parents early in life. The responsible young man learned barbering before he turned 20, mastering a skill that would not only support himself but eventually touch countless lives in his community.

The Barber with a Big Heart

Known for his cheerful personality and excellent skills, Huang built a loyal customer base at his barbershop on Datang Town's South Street. But what truly set him apart was his commitment to serving those in need - offering free haircuts to the disadvantaged, a practice he has maintained for years.

Community Recognition

"I've known Shifu Huang for over ten years. He's a righteous and warm-hearted person," one community member shared. "I heard he provides free haircuts after hours - working at his shop during the day and driving to offer free services at night. Though tired, he never asks for anything in return."

Another resident added: "Many people talk about Shifu Huang's charity work, especially how he personally visits the elderly, particularly those living alone or bedridden, to provide free services. He truly makes us feel that there's love in this world - he's a person with positive energy."

The Daily Routine of Kindness

Huang's small barbershop bustles with activity from 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM. But his workday doesn't end there. After briefing his son on shop matters, Huang loads his barber tools into his car and begins his "night shift" - traveling to various towns and neighborhoods to offer haircuts.

Since 2020, Huang has maintained this routine from Monday through Thursday evenings, serving communities across Pujiang County with special attention to those who cannot afford his services.

A Personal Mission

"Doing good deeds is a traditional virtue of the Chinese nation," Huang explains with conviction. "I had little education, lost my parents early, and have simple skills - I'm just a barber. I hope to use my ability to serve disabled people, lonely elders, and other vulnerable groups. Seeing them refreshed and happy brings me joy, so I will persist in this forever."

Legacy of Compassion

Shifu Huang's story demonstrates how ordinary people can create extraordinary impact through consistent acts of kindness. His dedication to serving the most vulnerable members of his community, without expectation of reward, exemplifies the best of humanitarian spirit and continues to inspire those around him.

Through his scissors and comb, Huang doesn't just style hair - he restores dignity, spreads warmth, and proves that true wealth lies not in what we keep, but in what we give away.
